Bang appointed to tackle hate crime in Kirklees

Bang Marketing has launched a Home Office pilot scheme in Kirklees to test the importance of using communications in tackling hate crime.

Hate crime, like other forms of specialist crime, suffers from huge levels of under-reporting.

Under-reporting of hate crime makes it impossible to accurately assess the scale of the issue, which leads to difficulties in identifying trends, hotpots and developing interventions.

After winning a competitive tendering process, Bang Marketing developed a campaign to test methods of tackling under-reporting in Kirklees.

Bang's solution involved depth interviews and focus groups, positioning, branding and the development of campaign literature to support training and an on-line reporting website.

Chris Garratt, Marketing Director at Bang Marketing said "Little work has been done in the UK to get to the heart of hate crime and the reasons for the significant levels of under-reporting that are believed to exist".

"We're delighted the Home Office and Kirklees Safer Communities have dedicated funding to testing the impact of communications on under-reporting, and hope the campaign presents us with some tangible results".
