Case Studies
Bradford Metropolitan District Council approached Bang towards the end of 2007 to help develop a campaign to raise the awareness of the importance of recycling over the festive period.
Bradford households throw away approximately 40,000 extra tonnes of rubbish at Christmas than any other time of year.
The weight of this additional rubbish amounts to more than 12,000 tonnes - nearly six times the weight of the London Eye. And on average across the UK 90 per cent of this rubbish ends up being thrown into landfill sites, and not recycled.
With virtually all Bradford households possessing a separate wheelie bin for paper, glass and metal cans, Bang believed greater awareness and education was the best solution.
Bang's "I'm dreaming of a green Christmas" campaign used outdoor advertising, on-line advertising, and recycled literature to highlight the ways in which people can recycle and go green over the period.
The success of the campaign had massive implications for the Council, which has been given tough Government targets to slash the amount of waste it sends to landfill from 230,000 tonnes to 75,000 tonnes by 2020.
